What is Mumio

Purified of additives Mumio is black color, shiny on surface. Consistency similar to asphalt. Almost immediately dissolves by body heat (on palm). It has an unmistakable bitter taste and a characteristic smell. Dissolves in water easily. Does not dissolve in alcohol. Fine sediment after stirring must be minimal.

From the chemical point of view Mumio is a natural mix of organic and inorganic matters. It consists of 26 microelements, 10 metallic oxides, 6 amino-acids, steroids, phospholipids, range of vitamins, ethereal oils and other biologically active substances.

The word Mumio literally means “protecting body against diseases”, “body preserving”. The term “mum” means growth in the areas where Persian Empire was situated.

Mumio doesn’t have anything in common with mummies (mumia vera aegyptiaca), a substance which is a mixture of powder from mummies conserved with asphalt and resin.

Mumio deposits are located in high mountains of Asia. Local people gather Mumio in caves and rock fissures in hardly accessible terrains at altitudes above 3000 meters. A group sets out for a few weeks’ journey to mountains which results in a few bags of raw Mumio. Gathering of Mumio is usually the only source of income of these people and they keep locations of its deposits in secret. Information about these locations are passed from father to son. Mumio is found on walls and ceilings of caves or in rifts as dropstones or small stalactites which remind tears by its shape (therefore the name Tears of the Mountains).

Types of Mumio

People divide and call Mumio in different ways – most of the time according to the place of occurrence or by color. And so we know:

iron Mumio, also called red or gold (coloration is caused by increased content of iron additives), copper Mumio, also called blue Mumio (coloration is caused by increased content of copper), even lichenaceous Mumio..

And these are not similar names for the same thing. People have the tendency to simplify, call similar things in a similar way and use the commonly used terms. It reminds of a situation when all copying machines were called Xerox. And every businessman will insist that his product is the true Original.

The only criteria for Mumio quality remains its purity (absence of additives) and location of gathering. No organic solvent is used to purify real Mumio, only pure water.

Present time the source of the highest quality Mumio is Kyrgyzstan where the production is subject to government quality and purity control.

Adaptogen

Mumio is a strong adaptogen with excellent features. In order to classify a substance as an adaptogen it has to fulfill these conditions:

  •    It must be TOTALLY non-toxic and ABSOLUTELY harmless to the organism.
  •    An adaptogen must normalize physical functions regardless existing (also sick) condition.
  •    An adaptogen produces a nonspecific response in the body—an increased resistance against multiple stressors including physical, chemical, or biological agents.

Although it doesn’t seem so these demands are very tough. As opposed to drugs which have side effects, adaptogens must have beneficial influence on organism without disturbing or damaging it. There are only very few substances with adaptogenic features and only few of them so strong.

Present time it is possible to buy Mumio in the form of tablets or suppositories introduced into the rectum or vagina. Even though the self-made preparation of solutions and suppositories will take you some time, we recommend it. Then you will always have on mind what raw material you are dealing with. The resulting effect is worth it. However keep on mind that Mumio alone is not a cure-all for everything.

Mumio even during longterm usage doesn’t trigger toxic or any other side-effects.

Facts & Theory

The scientific research of Mumio started around the year 1950. China, then the United States, the former Soviet Union, Iran and India made the greatest progress. It is interesting that while our ancestors adopted the existence and effects of Mumio as a fact and used its great properties, present-day science is still worried by the same question – “How is Mumio formed?”

There is a huge number of theories, some of them absolutely unbelievable. One relatively new theory is very close to the truth due to its vagueness: Mumio–are organic remains of fauna and flora being mixed with inorganic rock minerals. It is only a theory; however everybody agrees on that deposits have the following common properties: Locations are exposed to intensive solar radiation, situated in altitudes from 3000 to 5000 m and not polluted by human activities.

Neither geological age or type of the rock have any significant effect on Mumio formation. They are only reflected in small differences in the Mumio mineral content.

Usage and Application

Beneficial influence of Mumio on human organism is proven by centuries. We have prepared some of the applications for you, including recommended amounts supported by personal experience and accessible sources (practice of healers, literature, our and your experience).

Internal application

Angina pectoris

- it develops as a gripping, burning or sharp pain behind upper or middle part of the breastbone. The bout is triggered also by common physical strain, e.g. by walking. The pain quickly disappears after stopping physical strain.

Mumio application:

By lighter forms it is sufficient to use Mumio for about a week. By heavier forms it will be necessary to repeat three 30 days cycles with 5 days breaks.

Asthma

Mumio application: Dissolve 0,5g of Mumio into 500ml potion of licorice. Use 200ml (reduce the dosage for children younger than 8) in the morning daily. Keep the potion in cold place. Two week's cure repeat with 5 days break until the symptoms disappear.

Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is beginning to be classified as one of the so called common diseases. More calcium is breaking down from the tissue of bones than it is being stored up. If this condition persists the disease is gaining strength.

In many places it is possible to buy "calcium", sometimes also in a very nice wraping. However it is more than good to know, that usually it is calcium carbonate which is almost without benefit disposed by the body.

Mumio supports storing of calcium into the bone matter.

Dosage: 0,2 - 0,5 daily

Disorders of potency

There are two kinds of potency disorders - weak erection and low sperm quality.

In this area of Mumio aplication humanity has literally thousand years of experience, it really does not have sense here to get going.

Application: in the morning and evening 0,3g of Mumio on a empty stomach. First results expect after 7 days. For improvement of sperm quality use Mumio together with sea buckthorn juice. Application period 30 days.

Allergies

Mumio is one of the strongest remedies against allergies.

Mumio application: Prepare a solution of 1g of mumio for 1 liter of warm (boiled - not boiling) water (quality mumio immediately dissolves).
Application: orally in the morning 1 time a day: children age of 1 to 3  – 50ml, age of 4 to 7 – 70ml, 8 and older – 100 ml solution.
During strong allergy: 2 times a day half of the daily dose. Mumio doesn't have diluretic and laxative effects, but during its application the organism is being harmonized so keep those side effects on mind.
Rub the eczema with a solution of concentration of 1g for 100ml of warm (boiled - not boiling) water until the problems disappear.

Immunity stimulation

The immune system is always disturbed after long-lasting stress,  excessive usage of medicaments, synthetic food, poor lifestyle, excessive amounts of drugs (tobacco, alcohol).

If you are often tired, often have cold, have inflammations, digestive and excretory problems - something is wrong with your immune system.

For strengthening your immunity follow the therapy described in the section Preventive Mumio Therapy.

Stomach and enteric diseases

Most common stomach illnesses are of stomach mucosa inflammation (inflammation of stomach mucosa, chronical inflammation of stomach mucosa, stomach ulcers)

Mumio helps however it is necessary to take also another steps: change lifestyle (we have only one body and it has to last until the end) - avoid heavy, fat, spicy meals, forget fastfood, only a little alcohol and mind some medicine (typicaly antirheumatics). Spread your eating into a whole day.

Why is Mumio during illnesses of digestive track so efficient? It has significant antimicrobial influence on the Heliobacter pylori bacteria, which takes part in stomach illnesses, Mumio components lower the amount of gastric juices carried off to the bowels and it has spasmolytic effect.

Dosage: 0,2g of Mumio dissolved in a spoon of water daily before meal for period of 2 times 30 days with a ten days break.

Inflammation of genitals

Mumio prevents inflammation of mucosae, heals its injuries, supports its formation.

Application: The most effective is application of a tampon  into the vagina. Tampons are easy to create: remove the tampon cover so it does not swell during absorbtion of the solution. Then dip it into 4% Mumio solution, leave it to absorb properly. Applied for night. Together with tampons use 0,2g of Mumio for the period of 20 days. Avoid sexual activities during the application.

Mucosae Infections

Mumio has a great effect on mucosae - it prevents and cures its inflammations and stabilizes its surface. Primarily this is concerning mucosae of respiratory tract, gastric and enteric mucosae.

Mumio application: Solution of 1g (5 tablets) Mumio in 1l of water. Take for three days 100ml of solution per day, then reduce the dosage. Tumescences dissapear after first days, however the healing cure should last 20 days at minimum!

Is is more recommended to do the preventive therapy cycles in the period of 20 days in spring and in fall.

Fractures

Huge amount of articltes have been written about these almost magical effects of Mumio on any fractures - we won't be quoting them here (you may study the clinical studies section). In brief: Mumio significantly speeds up the healing process of broken bones (this is especially noticeable by elderly persons)  - the bone callus is formed 8 to 17 days faster!

Dosage: 0,2g two times a day for the period of 30 days.

Haemorrhoids

It would be possible to dedicate many pages to this disease - its formation, stages of development, symptoms, form of prevention etc. The topic is very extensive, here we only show basic answer to a question - "What can be done?"

  1. It is necessary to correct the general fact that haemorrhoids are in the form of varicose veins - this is not the case, it is an inflammatory process!
  2. Mumio is applied in the form of suppositories several times (typicaly 2-3x a day) together with using the form of tablets. Mumio has anti-inflammatory effect and helps during formation of a new mucosa. It has astringent effects on the mucosa of rectum and eases the itching. Duration of application is until the problem goes away while observing below written rules. If the heamorrhoids are in the beginning or a little developed stage, it is definitely worth to preserve and achieve the desired goal - to get rid of it. If the disease is in a later stage, it is very convenient to undergo the cure, observe the effect. In any case it is convenient to visit a specialized doctor, beacuse he can determine whether there are actualy heamorrhoids - it is necessary to rule out other diseases!
  3. Few rules:
  • after each stool properly wash the rectum with PH neutral soap
  • strengthen muscles of the sphincter (can be done inconspicuously and in secrecy)
  • move regularly, swim aptly
  • do your needs after the first impulse and take out time for it
  • chose your food (excellent are flavoured pollard), drink a lot
  • no cathartics!

Sore throat, angina

During first symptoms suck Mumio tablet (taste really is not amazing, but the result is worth it). Continue 2 times daily until problems disappear.

For children make solution combined with honey. Apply warm, not hot.

External application

Generally

Apply Mumio in the form of ointment to the affected part and always cover with breathable material. It is especially effective to use Mumio in combination with sea buckthorn oil which alone greatly regenerates skin. (note - both components color)

It is always convenient to increase the effect by using Mumio also internally.

Application during:

  • burns
  • abrasions
  • purulent inflammations
  • eczema
  • skin inflammations

Eczema

With 5-6% solution of Mumio with juice of sea buckthorn rub or steam on to the affected parts before sleep for 30 - 35 minutes. Simultaneously use 0.2g - 0.4g of Mumio in the morning on an empty stomach and in the evening before sleep together with juice of sea buckthorn.

The therapy cycle is 20 days of application, 10 days of rest. The cycle needs to be repeated even after symptoms disappear. Eczema always demands regular and methodical attention.

Parodontosis

- also for treatment of inflamed gums and oral cavity

Use 0.3g - 0.5g of Mumio internally, always 1-2 times before sleep with milk and honey, or with water in 1:20 ratio and at the same time apply 5% solution of Mumio on the affected part. The therapy lasts 25 days.

Preventive Mumio Therapy

Preventive therapy lasts 40 days - 3 times 10 days with breaks of 5 days. Between therapies a break of 20 days is recommended.

We shortly present basic directions for the therapy - it is only up to you which one you will prefer and follow.

  • strengthening influence on muscular mass (sportsmen, strength and endurance disciplines)
  • strengthening of physical and mental resistance and insensitiveness against stress
  • antioxidant effects - slowing down the ageing process, significant increase of mental abilities
  • pre-operative - general strengthening of organism

Clinical studies

Many descriptions of the application of "Mumio" in surgery, in therapy, and in numerous other illnesses have appeared in the scientific literature. Here we outline some of the published studies of scientists on the clinical use of "Mumio" in many illnesses and conditions including bone fractures, stomach ulcers, radiculitis, burns, and trophic ulcers. Most of the authors reporting their experiences with "Mumio" were working in practical treatment clinics, and their work has led to some convincing results concerning the multi-faceted activity of "Mumio" in regard to the various illnesses reported.

T.R. Abdurahmanov and co-author (1970) applied "Mumio" in the treatment of thrombo-phlebitis in deep veins of the lower extremities. The preparation was prescribed in doses of 0.3 grams once a day, over a period of ten days. Patients received no other medical treatment. Clinical results and biochemical and haematological examinations showed that already by the third to the sixth day of treatment patients experienced a reduction of pain and of the extent of swelling in the affected extremities. By the eighth to the tenth day, skin temperature had normalised and other symptoms of the illness had disappeared.

Using treatment with "Mumio" at 1-1.5%, there was a increase in the content of haemoglobin and in the amount of arthrocytes in the blood, and other leukocyte levels normalised. On examination of the blood coagulation system of the patients it was found that by the third to the tenth day of treatment, coagulation time of the blood was lengthened by 92-132% in comparison with the initial data. Tolerance of the plasma to heparin decreased by 42-86%. The rate of fibrinolysis increased by 39-118%, but the concentration of degradation products decreased by 250-300%. The concentration of heparin increased by 37-80%. During the treatment there appeared to be no negative effects on the function of the kidneys or liver.

[comment: Considering the significant anti-coagulatory activity of the preparation, "Mumio" may be recommended for the treatment of illnesses with thrombo-phlebitis in the deep veins of the lower extremities.]

In another work, T.R. Abdurahmanov (1970) reported a high effectiveness of treatment using a "thick" extract of "Mumio" in cases of chronic colitis . The preparation was prescribed in a dose of 200 milligrams per day over a period of ten days. Standard symptoms of the disease disappeared in most cases by the fourth or fifth day, and in the longest case by the tenth day of treatment.

V.N. Ismailova and co-author (1969) used "Mumio" for the treatment of fractures of tubular bones in fifty-two children aged from two to sixteen. For one to five year olds, the preparation was prescribed internally two to three times a day at a dose of 0.1-0.2 grams; from five to ten years of age at 0.2-.4 grams; from ten to fifteen at 0.4-0.5 grams. The authors noted a very positive influence of the preparation. Side effects were observed in only two children in the form of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea; in these cases, because of these side effects, the prescription of "Mumio" was discontinued for a time.

V.I. Kozlovskaya (1968) used the Caucasian variety of "Mumio" for the treatment of diseases of the peripheral nerve fibres (rediculitis, neuritis, plexitis, and neuralgia) by means of massaging (for a period of three to five minutes) in a solution of the preparation applied to the affected part of the body. It was noted that after the application of "Mumio" with the brief massage, the tension of the inflamed muscles was lowered, pain and itching disappeared, and all remaining symptoms of the disease disappeared over the first three to five days. The treatment concluded with a 100% recovery from the respective illness.

A.M. Mamadaliyeva and S.D. Madyarov (1968) used "Mumio" for the treatment of trauma-damaged peripheral nerves. The preparation was introduced in doses of 0.3 to 0.5 grams 1-3 times a day (daily doses of 0.9 to 1.5 grams) over a ten-day period. The treatment promoted restoration of the lost function of the extremities, and such normalisation of sensitivity was achieved three to four weeks earlier than in those patients treated by the standard methods. The authors observed that after taking a dose of "Mumio" patients developed an increased temperature (up to 37.5 degrees C, 100 F) and sweating. A few patients developed mild headaches and a feeling of being too hot.

[comment: In our view, the high doses of "Mumio" used in this study may have an undesirably exaggerated impact, in comparison with that produced by the normally recommended therapeutic doses. Such high doses should not be used over a long course of treatment.]

L.G. Selezneva and co-authors (1972) used "Mumio" for the treatment of 65 patients with internal burns. "Mumio" was applied to the site in the form of a 1.3% solution or mass with the addition of 0.5% Novocaine and this was given internally in a dose of 0.5 grams once a day over the course of ten days with a five-day break. In all cases it helped decrease pain, promoted the disappearance of signs of inflammation, and reduced the length of time before separation of scabs and helped cleanse the wounds of necrotic tissue, promoted the appearance of pink granulation, and increased the speed of re-epithelisation. The preparation shortened pre-operatory preparations for the treatment of internal burns by 7-12 days.

Culaymanov (1970) used dry extract of "Mumio" in a complex of treatments given to patients with tuberculosis of the bones, in the post-operative period.

There was a total of 57 patients in the group. Sub-groups were affected with lesions of the hip (37), of parts of the knees (8) , and of vertabrae (12). The author used standard dry extract of "Mumio" at 0.1 grams twice a day over the course of twenty days. Repetition of the course of treatment occurred after a break of ten days. The total dose over the course of treatment came to four grams of the preparation.

During the treatment with "Mumio" patients regained ability to sleep, appetite, and began to quickly improve clinically after only two weeks; after two to three weeks clinical and haemodynamic signs (numbers of erythrocites, leukocytes, thrombocytes), and several biochemical signs, and liver functional tests, had completely normalised. In the patients being treated with "Mumio", reduction of the time during which a plaster cast was needed was apparent at one month.

Overall, prescription of "Mumio" during the post-operative period increased the speed of reparation processes in the body of the vertebrae by 28-30 days in children and by 15-25 days in adults, in comparison with those cases that were treated using well-known methods but without "Mumio".

S. Shakirov (1966-1969) reported on experieces with more than 2500 patients with various fractures of the tubular and flat bones who received "Mumio" in combined pharmaceutical and surgical treatments. The preparation was prescribed internally at a dose of 0.2 grams once a day on an empty stomach over ten days. After a ten day break the course was repeated.

The author reports that by taking "Mumio", patients significantly improved their general condition, normalised sleep, regained appetite, lowered pain in the area of the fracture, quickly decreased swelling, dispersed hematomas, and sooner regained the weight-bearing capacity of their extremities, and reduced their time of immobility.

[comment: Despite the encouraging reported results, one cannot agree with the author's prescription regimen: two ten-day courses with a ten day break. The ten-day break after the influence of the preparation is only just beginning to manifest itself is in our view too long, and could militate against the optimum healing of the lesion.

Since the preparation is non-toxic, a more expedient method is to prescribe not once at 0.2 grams, but preferably twice daily, using the calculation of 1-3 milligrams per kilogram of body weight (i.e. 0.1-0.3 grams for a 100kg person; depending on the extent of mineralisation of the preparation) over the course of twenty to thirty days. Breaks should be no longer than five days; repetition of the course of treatment is needed only in long, slow-healing fractures or in fractures of the large bones.]

T.M Shamshina and S.I. Gershkalov (1969) used a 4% aqueous solution of "Mumio" for treatment of twenty patients with lesions to the tissues of the female sexual organs (erosion of the vaginal wall and cervix) A napkin dampened with the solution was placed in contact with the eroded surface and held in place with a tampon. After twenty-four hours the wound was cleared of any pus coating and at the third or fourth day the erosion had cleared completely. On the fifth or sixth day an increase in epithelisation in the area of the lesion which had been situated on the granular surface was observed. The complete course consisted of 6-10 treatments. In all patients, full re-epithelisation was achieved by the end of the second or third week.

A.Y. Voigelman (1970) used a 2.3-3% water-solution and mass of "Mumio" for the treatment of epidermal conditions. It was established that, regarding the treatment of burns, using "Mumio" speeded up the healing of the epidermis. The time of treatment was reduced by 4 to 5 days compared to use of other medical remedies.

L.H. Habibov (1970) used a "thick" extract of "Mumio" in a complex of treatments for patients with intestinal conditions (60%) and with periodontal disease. Treatment effects were comparable to the results of generally accepted methods, including local use of antibiotics and parenteral dosage with extract of aloe and vitamin B1. "Mumio" was prescribed internally at 0.2 grams once a day over the course of ten days. For one-time conditions, application of "Mumio" in the form of five per cent water extract was prescribed.

Clinical X-ray and microbiological analysis showed that in periodontal conditions, treatment with "Mumio" has an efficacious remedying effect; it promotes rapid regression of standard symptoms of the illness, with elimination of local inflammatory reaction, improved general condition and the feeling of well-being of the patients. It encourages regression of various general pathological processes in alveolar extensions of the jaw, and improves the trophic ability of the gums and of the mucous layer of the mouth cavity. Microbiological examinations on the mouth cavity and of the tooth-gum pockets showed that with the treatment with "Mumio" there was a greater amount of bacteria that possess an aggressive fermentation complex, and a decrease in incidence of pain by three times, in comparison with patients who received antibiotics (tetracycline, penicillin, levomycin) or aloe and vitamin B1. In this application form, the range of treatment possible using "Mumio" is very broad.

A.S. Vishnyevski and co-author (1972), in a health-resort clinic in Essentuka, used the Caucasian variety of "Mumio" as a component in a combination treatment for patients with ulcers of the stomach and small intestine, and in other cases of non-specific ulcerative colitis. "Mumio" was prescribed over 28 days on an empty stomach, in a dose of 0.2 to 0.5 grams in aqueous solution. In cases of ulcerative colitis "Mumio" was introduced as a microclasm. Favourable results in improving the general condition of the body, and improvement in the functional condition of the stomach, small intestine and lower parts of the large intestine were noted. "Mumio" decreased the ulcerated area in the stomach mucous membranes, increased its trophic ability, promoted healing of ulcers and increased the effectiveness of the resort therapy.

Two experimental studies of Y.N. Nuraliyev on rats (1968, 1970) showed that "Mumio" promoted and speeded up regenerative processes in artificially-induced stomach ulcers.

[comment: The animal experiments support the findings of clinical studies recommending therapeutic use of the preparation in cases of stomach and intestinal ulcers.]

We here report at somewhat greater length on clinical research on treatment of patients with stomach and intestinal ulcers, carried out in two clinics: the Department of Internal Diseases of the Medical Institute of Kyrgystan, and the Leningrad sanitation-hygiene and teaching faculty of the Medical Institute of Tadjikistan.

A total of seventy-four patients with stomach and intestinal ulcers was studied. The largest group of patients (44%) had suffered from the disease for 2-5 years and a further large group (21%) for ten years. The great majority of the patients (72) either recovered from their illnesses or reduced the severity of the condition by localising the ulcer, over varying intervals of time. Thirty-seven of the patients suffered from indigestion, twenty-six had a tendency toward nausea and vomiting, twenty-four suffered from belching, ninety had swelling of the stomach, and twenty-eight had a tendency toward constipation. The Gregorson reflex was positive in twenty-six of the patients. Upon X-ray examination, sixty-five patients displayed a "niche" in the bulb of the intestine and in three of these the "niches" had begun entering the wall of the stomach. In all patients signs of changes in the folds and relief of the mucous membranes, disturbance in motor functions and various degrees of deformation of the bulb of the intestine were detected upon X-ray examination.

Treatment using "Mumio" was done with no change in the conditions on the background treatment or nutrition. The preparation was prescribed internally at 100 milligrams twice a day (morning and evening) over the course of twenty-four to twenty-six days, thirty minutes before eating. Before use, the preparation was dissolved in a small amount of tea or boiled water.

During the 15-20 minutes after taking "Mumio", a reduction of the feeling of pain occurred in almost all patients. All dyspepsia occurrences (nausea, vomiting, heartburn, belching, etc.) disappeared at seven to day days of treatment. In patients with constipation, the stool was regular at the sixth to fifteenth day of treatment.

During the process of treatment with "Mumio" the "niches" disappeared in sixty five patients (95%), and in a further three patients they showed a dramatic decrease in size. The Gregerson reaction became negative in all twenty-six patients in whom it had been positive during the treatment. Analysis of the gastric fluids showed normal activity of the secretion functions of the stomach: in hyperacidity and hypoacidity the process of acidification of the gastric fluids gradually normalised, in a few cases increasing the level of pepsinogins. Gastrobiopsy examination in thirty-two patients showed various degrees of dystrophy amelioration to superficial, with expression of subepithelial swellings.
At the eighth to twentieth day of treatment using "Mumio", inflammation processes disappeared and the trophic mucus of the stomach lining normalised.

In three cases, in which the patients were very badly afflicted with pain, prescription of "Mumio" was combined with Vicaline. With this combination, pain decreased over the course of three days and the patient recovered much faster than with the use of either preparation separately.

In four patients, besides ulcerative diseases, chronic spastic colitis was also established. After performing a course of treatment with "Mumio" the ulcer pain symptoms and other symptoms connected to the accompanying inflammation of the affected stomach parts and intestines disappeared.

In summary, using the treatment with "Mumio" a healing affect was achieved in all seventy-four patients. With this treatment no side effects were found.
